The Harris County Democratic Party congratulates Sylvia Garcia on her win to the Texas State Senate! We are sure that she will adequately serve the people of Senate District 6. Harris County is lucky to have someone who will aggressively fight for the people's interests and promote progressive principals.

We also commend Representative Carol Alvarado for her admirable run and her ongoing service to the people of Harris County and House District 145.

HCDP recognizes the importance of this election. If a Republican won this district, then they would have had a filibuster proof majority in the Texas Senate. It is imperative that Senate District 6 remains blue so that extreme Republican legislation does not see the light of day. Also, SD6 needs an ideal leader, they should have someone who upholds the late Senator Mario Gallegos' best qualities. Senator Gallegos represented the average person, fought aggressively for equality, and cared passionately. We're happy that the people of SD6 picked a leader of that caliber.
