Hon. Gerry Birnberg: He is the former chair of the Harris County Democratic Party, a position he held from January 2003 until December 2011. Originally from Corpus Christi, Birnberg attended law school at the University of Texas, and moved to Houston in 1971 to serve as a law clerk to the chief judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He is also a lawyer and the managing partner of Williams, Birnberg, & Andersen, L.L.P., a law firm he founded in 1973. Gerry is a member of the City of Houston Independent Police Oversight Board, co-chaired the Mayor Lee P. Brown transition team on Houston municipal courts, served on the White House Anti-Crime Task Force under President Bill Clinton's administration, and has been featured on several local television talk shows. Mr. Birnberg has been a Democratic activist for over 40 years, representing and assisting Democratic candidates and officeholders in legal and political matters. He serves as legal counsel to the Harris County Democratic Party on numerous issues, heads election day legal efforts, trains candidates and volunteers, attends state and senate district conventions, and is the Chair of the Harris County Democratic Party Primary Committee. He also serves as the Democratic Precinct Chair for precinct 572. Gerry is also the recipient of 2003 Award of Legal Excellence presented by the Houston Chapter of the NAACP.
